Enough To Go By

Random tidbits of my life, music, video, pictures that appeal to me can be found here.

This blog will mostly be a meandering through whatever is going on in my life. I don't have a plan, and I don't plan to have one any time soon.

This tumblr is entitled after a song by Vienna Teng.

If my love could keep you alive...

Vienna Teng || Fields of Gold

Another Sting cover.

Artist Vs Poet || Damn Rough Night

My boys at AVP put out a new song a few days ago. It’s still not to the excellence of say, 8.14, but it’s definitely better than some of the stuff on their self-titled EP.

Sungha Jung || Fields of Gold

A cover of the Sting classic.

This kid makes me want to quit guitar forever. Yet he also makes me want to get better so I can play this terrific arrangement.

Vienna Teng Concert!

That concert might have been (actually, it probably was) the best concert of my life!

Now let’s just say that I am to Vienna Teng as certain people are to Jason Mraz. =O It has always been one of my wishes to go see her live and I finally did. The last time she was in town (February) I missed it. Ever since then I’ve been kicking myself for not going. This Saturday definitely made up for the wait.

I got to the venue about 20 minutes before and the place was already packed! Now mind you this was a really intimate venue called Rock House films, but man was it hard finding a place to sit. There is an option to sit in the very front on the floor with a blanket and pillow, but unfortunately that option was full, so I sat around the middle right.

Showtime came around and Vienna and Alex Wong came out to standing applause! I felt very at home with the crowd, as I’m usually the only one at work or elsewhere jamming Vienna in the car or at home or in the inner workings of my brain. Along with the intimacy of the room (I was about 5-6 yards away from the stage), the atmosphere of the fans and how down-to-earth the two were made the venue feel like home.

The Setlist:

Whatever You Want
Blue Caravan
Gravity (with nifty reverse loop action)
Antebellum
In Another Life
Homecoming
The Last Snowfall

[Short intermission due to sound issues]

1br/1ba
Stray Italian Greyhound
No Gringo
In The Creases (song by Alex Wong)
Nothing Without You
Augustine
The Tower
Harbor
Grandmother’s Song

[Encore]

Green Island Serenade (acapella)
Soon Love Soon

I didn’t get to hear a few of my favorites (Enough To Go By, the song this tumblr is named for, and Kansas), but the setlist was pretty damn awesome. The banter between Alex and Vienna and the crowd was great and made me laugh a few times. References to D&B, glitch bands, Street Fighter, roasted duck, and jokes in horribly bad taste were all around.

But by far my absolute favorite moment was the last song, Soon Love Soon.

Typically in their live shows, Soon Love Soon is a call-and-response song with the crowd. The crowd will sing one vocal while Vienna sings the other, which wasn’t any different at the Rock House Films venue. However, Vienna called out and asked if anybody wanted to “do something extra.”

Considering my complete fanboy excitement at this point I raised my hand, as did 2 others. We were then told to get up on stage and sing a THIRD vocal part! Holy crap!

After shaking on stage and receiving a hug from Vienna and shaking Alex’s hand, the show was over. I took my copy of Inland Territory over to where Alex and Vienna were sitting and got the cover and CD autographed.

Overall probably the best concert I’ve ever been to. I got to meet some wonderful people, listen to great music, get on stage with Vienna Teng and Alex Wong, sing my heart out, and get autographs. I will DEFINITELY be keeping tabs on the next time they come around. Which better be pretty soon. =]

Okay, end overly long post about how fanboy I can be over an artist.

Oh and one more thing…

Someone asked ME for an autograph since I was on stage! =O

Minimal guitars, a haunting melody, and great lyrics. I love this song. John is the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anyone that is a fan of RHCP should check out John’s solo work.
